Impact of World War II on German-American Voting Patterns in Wisconsin

Using GIS to analyze historical trends in electoral geography has always been a passion of mine. This map compares the increase in the Republican presidential vote between the elections of 1936 and 1940 in each Wisconsin county with the German-born percentage of the county's population. The strong positive correlation between the two is reflective of a nationwide trend of German-Americans towards the Republican Party, driven by isolationist backlash to US involvement in World War II.
